I am very pleased to announce that we are celebrating 95 years in business. Started by my grandfather Hovsep Nahigian in Chicago in 1915, the firm was located on Wabash Avenue in Chicago, selling fine oriental rugs from Persia, Turkey and Asia Minor.
When Hovsep sons graduated from college in the 1930's they joined their father in business and moved their operations to West Chicago Avenue in Chicago. At that location, the firm in addition to selling fine oriental rugs had a sophisticated rug cleaning plant where they specialized in cleaning every kind of hand made and machine made rug.
In the 1960's my cousin Jack and I joined our fathers and built their current showroom and service facility on golf Road just west of the Old Orchard shopping center. Today, the company continues to provide rug shoppers with a unique selection of hand made oriental rugs from all of the major rug weaving centers of the world.

Recently, one of our customers sent us a lovely Persian Bijar rug to be cleaned. Unfortunately the rug was badly sun faded along one side. They had not had the rug cleaned in years and had not had it turned. We will be able to shear the pile to restore the color but this step could have been elimated if the rug had been turned.

Yes indeed, good quality oriental rugs really do last. I just had a wonderful visit with a customer of ours who purchased a lovely Persian Keshan rug from us over 40 years ago. We recently cleaned and serviced the rug for her and she remarked that the rug had survived six kids, five dogs and loads of grandchildren and grand dogs!
What a great testimony to purchasing quality rugs that will give you years of enjoyment and service.

The following is general procedures for the removal of spots and stains in your home: Scrape any solid matter up with a dull blade like a butter knife. Soak up any liquid with paper towels pressed over the spill, beginning at the edge and working toward the center. Do not rub, this will cause spreading. Sponge lightly with a weak solution of slightly warm water and dishwashing detergent, 1/4 teaspoon per quart of water, just lightly sudsy. Blot with towels. Rinse by sponging in a cold water and distilled vinegar mixture (1 tsp. white vinegar to a cup of water). Blot up the rinsed area with more paper towels under pressure. If the foundation of the rug has been saturated, lift the area off the floor for drying, using a fan if the area is large. Work quickly and do not heavily soak the stained area. Restore direction of the pile before area dries completely by grooming with a soft brush.
Give us a call if the stain is still apparent after drying or the pile is badly distorted.
